FAACL’s program is designed to provide youth with access to high-quality, age-appropriate arts instruction in a structured and nurturing environment that encourages artistic growth, discipline, and self-confidence. The program’s goal is to allow young people to explore and develop their unique gifts and talents within a positive and creative atmosphere.

Area master teaching artists, arts educators, and professional performers will be recruited to provide exceptional instruction throughout Central Louisiana and surrounding areas. Programs will be conducted in a variety of community-based locations, with classes offered in dance, drama, music, visual arts, and creative writing.

Through donations, student sponsorships, grants, and private foundation support, FAACL will coordinate the e’LEVation of these bright and talented youth by expanding access to meaningful arts education opportunities and pathways for future success.

The Academy will also develop partnerships and collaborations to present FAACL’s “Living on the Edge” initiative, featuring concerts, public art exhibitions, and youth performance programs designed to connect communities, audiences, and arts institutions along the Red River waterfront. These events will not only celebrate artistic expression but also stimulate community engagement and cultural tourism. Local merchants and small businesses will be invited to market their products and services to event audiences, helping to spur micro-economic activity and strengthen the regional creative economy.

Stephanie R. Bookman-Gaston, President and Executive Director, turned a heartfelt vision into reality through her dedicated nonprofit work with the iconic Arna Bontemps African American Museum and Cultural Arts Center in Alexandria’s Downtown Cultural District. For more than five years, she poured her passion into creating fine arts programs that inspired and empowered youth ages 9–11, opening doors to creativity, self-expression, and cultural discovery.

One of her most memorable achievements was continuing the vision of Gwendolyn Y Elmore to present over 20 years “Jazz on the River” —a vibrant community concert that united professional performing artists and local youth on one stage. What began as a creative initiative quickly blossomed into a beloved community experience, drawing overwhelming support from residents throughout Alexandria and surrounding areas. Its success reflected not only the community’s deep appreciation for the arts, but also Stephanie’s unwavering belief that every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and shine through artistic expression.
